#1 Evan Fink Period 6 11/21/11 This is the first journal entry of the second marking period and the past week we watched the video about genocide going on in Africa. The video was really moving how one man went to Africa and took pictures of all the chaos going on and he couldn’t do anything but watch and take pictures. Later on during the video the same guy was trying to get people to help stop the horrific things going on in Africa. Later he stood in front of thousands of people and gave a two minute speech about what’s going on and how the people can help. We also touched up on the cold war which is a war that involves no fire arms and fighting physically it is all verbal and tension.
#2 Evan Fink 12/2/11 Period 6 This week we talked about the Iron Curtain. There was a speach given by prime minister Winston Churchill the speech was made on March 5, 1946, at Westminister College in Fulton, Missouri. He called for an alliance against the spread of Soviet Communism. The name "iron curtain" was given because the spread acted like an "iron curtain". This was all going on during the "cold war." We also talked about the Korean War. I also learned that there is still fear of Korea today. Korea had split into "two". North Korea and South Korea. The fear today is that North Korea has Nuclear Weapons and that is why we are very cautious. And also with the past events of us helping South Korea gain part of the north there is no telling what kind of grudge they may have against us.
#3 Evan Fink 12/9/11 Period 6 This week we learned about MacArthur and a few things about what he did. We learned that he drove North Korea back over the 38th parallel. After being successful, MacArthur wanted to press forward. He was warned that it would bring tension with China and it ended up doing just that. President Truman warned MacArthur not to speak out so much. MacArthur didnt't listen and because he spoke out so much, Truman fired him in April, 1951. In the election of 1952, Dwight D. Eisenhower said that he would end the Korean War. It took him 2 years to do so. North Korea and South Korea are still split today. There is a fear of Nuclear Weapons in North Korea and the United States is nervous because we helped out South Korea in the war. Aslo we picked a topic for an essay we have to write and we are able to pick a partner so matt and I paired up because we both had our eye on the space race which is what our topic is now about.
#4 Evan Fink 12/12/11 Period 6 The past week in history we learned about me the Korean War more and more we learned more of involved and who was on what side. We also learned about the locations of countries and we added a few more of the Asia continent to our knowledge and we taught each other ways we remember them. So with that we share our clever ways to remember them so maybe everyone else can use their way of remembering. Also we learned a few things about how it is in Korea for example like how north and south communicate with the north by the way it was in a video we watched just an fyi, they have this special conference room where they have meetings that north rarely showed up to. Whats interesting is that the way they let the north in is by a door but you cannot open it uless you have someone else from the south holding your arm incase north were to try and pull the south to their side.
#5 Evan Fink 12/23/11 Period 6
This week we reflected a lot on what happened in North Korea. The dictator of North Korea died at the age of 69. His name was Kim Jong-il. Kim Jong-il took over North Korea after the previous dictator had died. He made North Korea a Hermit Kingdom. People living there have ZERO communication with the outside world. The 38th parallel is the division of North and South Korea. There is also a DMZ set up. A DMZ is a demilitarized zone with a ton of military guarding both sides. Every flinch is monitored. In the documentary we watched, we saw one man had escaped. He was previously helping north korea's military and he saw what they did and he decided to fight against it. The electric fences and mind fields made it nearly impossible to escape north korea but somehow he did it. He brought a friend along with him but his friend was burned alive on the electric fences. Also in that video there was a doctor cant remember his name but he cured over 1000 people of partial blindness and he was working on about 100 a day while he was there.
#6 Evan Fink 1/6/12 Period 7 Today we were in the lab and it’s a nice change because we are in the lab on Friday instead of Monday which I believe is better because people tend to forget what happened during the week where on Fridays we have it in our brains. Anyways this week in history our class we learned more about the cold war and its many tragic events that still affect us today. Also we learned that Russia had its own “iron curtain” like during the world war. We also did an exit ticket that informed us on the alliances, classes and differences of the cold war which was pretty informative I learned about what the Cuban missiles crisis was and what it was all about, it is when Russia stashed a bunch of nuclear weapons aimed at us on Cuba! =O

Evan Fink 1/13/12 Period 6 This week in history we learned about conformity and how women finally got the right to vote. Although women got the right to vote they still had that feeling of emptiness. Women would stay home all day work on the house take care of the kid s all while making sure their husbands are well taken care of. The husband would work all day come home and the women who most likely did the same amount of work as the man would take care of her tired husband. The women followed this routine everyday of their lives they had the right to vote but it wasn’t enough for them because in return they stayed home all day with really no time to themselves. In class we had one of our class discussions and we were talking about the problem the women had and that they still had the need of more freedom. |
